Elaborating on the “adaptives” of Franz West, a set of clunky sculptural props were passed around by performers in a choreographed game set inside a former lawn bowling club house.
Each prop had several potential uses and performers improvised to find more. For example, a megaphone doubled as a large hat, and was also used as a fountain, elephant, wine glass, spyglass, telephone, and more.
The game included passing, marching, circling and dialogue, where a single prop was passed back and forth between 2 performers responding to each other’s improvisations.
More props were added as the game progressed and it became increasingly chaotic.
An exercise in experimentation and improvisation within a set form, the performance recalls the work of artists such as Simone Forti and Yvonne Rainer, the physical comedy of Looney Tunes and Buster Keaton, and the way children play with found objects.
